Michigan LASIK YAG Laser Eye Surgery

yag laserRohr Eye & Laser Center has installed a new neodymium YAG laser for eye surgery, especially  glaucoma. The YAG was installed in its own climate-controlled room separate from the other lasers in the office. With this new tool onsite, Dr. Rohr will have even more options available for patients who require corrective laser eye surgery.Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve – the part of the eye that carries the images we see to the brain. If the optic nerve is harmed, it can lead to blind spots or eventually even blindness. The most common form of glaucoma is chronic open-angle glaucoma. In this condition, the drainage channel in the eye is blocked, resulting in fluid buildup and pressure inside the eye. This pressure slowly and painlessly destroys the optic nerve.Selective laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) uses the YAG laser to open the drainage channel in the eye, thus lowering pressure and lessening the chance of glaucoma. The new YAG laser not only enables Dr. Rohr to better treat glaucoma patients, but is also useful for treating cataracts.
